Foreign employment fraud convict held

KATHMANDU: Police on Tuesday arrested a person convicted of foreign employment fraud around two years ago.

The 39-year-old Chakrawarti Lohani, a permanent resident of Benighat-3 of Dhading district, was arrested from Samakhusi of Kathmandu today.

The Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police had deployed a team after him.

Earlier, on February 24, 2015, the Foreign Employment Tribunal had convicted him of fraud and slapped with a three-year jail term and Rs 300,000 fine.

The Tribunal had observed that he had defrauded 31 persons of Rs 4.648 million, assuring them of lucrative jobs in Iraq, Malaysia, Qatar, Israel, Dubai, Bahrain and Ukraine.

Lohani was the operator of Gaushala-based Ishan Rojgar International Pvt Ltd.

Meanwhile, police produced the convict before that Kathmandu District Court, which sent him to the Central Jail, Jagannathdewal for execution of the sentence today itself.
