Former AIG Thapa surrenders to SC over Sudan scam

KATHMANDU: Former Additional Inspector General of Nepal Police Shyam Singh Thapa has surrendered to the Supreme Court today.

Thapa, along with other senior officials, were convicted in multimillion dollar Sudan scam and slapped jail sentence along with penalty.

They were found guilty in embezzling funds and sending substandard logistics to Sudan for the Nepal Police personnel deployed for the United Nations peacekeeping mission.

The SC has slapped him with one year jail term and Rs 40, 000 fine.

He, however, would get 20 per cent waiver on both the punishments for voluntarily surrendering to the Court.

Earlier in February 2012, the Special Court had convicted them of corruption along with the Armed Personnel Carrier suppliers.
