KATHMANDU: Former Queen Mother Ratna Rajya Laxmi Shah has been hospitalised after she reported a severe stomachache on Thursday morning.

The stepmother of former King Gyanendra Shah and second wife of late King Mahendra Shah was rushed to the Thapathali-based Norvic International Hospital today.

A hospital source on the condition of anonymity said she is likely to be discharged from the hospital by this evening itself as all necessary tests were over and the results did not show any serious illness.

The 88-year-old former royal has been residing at the Mahendra Manjil inside the Narayanhiti Palace, though the Shah family left the Palace after abolition of monarchy in 2008.

The Palace, however, has already been nationalised.
