Government told to revise foreign aid policy

Kathmandu, January 25

Parliamentary International Relations and Labour Committee led by Prabhu Sah today directed the government to revise the Foreign Aid Policy-2014 and to formulate a separate Act.

The meeting of the committee directed the government to accept foreign aid that serves national interest.

Besides, the committee also directed the government to implement the system of spending foreign aid effectively through government channels.

The committee also directed the government to accept foreign assistance only for big projects and establish a regular monitoring and evaluation system for projects funded by foreign donors.

However, Joint Secretary of the Finance Ministry Bainkuntha Aryal said the finance ministry was preparing to introduce an Act for managing budget and making foreign aid more transparent .

Addressing the meeting State Minister for Local Development Kunti Kumari Shahi said more than Rs 7.16 billion was allocated for 23 projects under her ministry.

She added that the review meeting would be held with foreign donors to evaluate the progress in this regard.

Joint secretary at Local Development Ministry Purna Chandra Bhattarai said the foreign aid was mobilised as per the concept of “one district one national programme.”
