High-level delegation from Bangladesh arrives to take update on fatal crash

KATHMANDU: A high-level government delegation from Bangladesh has arrived in the Capital this afternoon to take updates about the fatal crash involving the US-Bangla passenger airplane.

The plane crash at Tribhuvan International Airport on Monday resulted in tragic death of 49 passengers.

The delegation comprises of Bangladeshi Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism AKM Shahjahan Kamal; Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam and senior officials of Civil Aviation Authority, stated Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Bharat Raj Poudel.

A total of 49 persons including the crew members have so far been confirmed dead — out of which 22 are Nepali nationals — in the crash by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Of the total passengers travelling in the aircraft, 33 were from Nepal, 32 from Bangladesh, and one each from China and Maldives.

Other 22 injured in the deadly accident are receiving treatment at various hospitals in Kathmandu.

TIA Spokesperson Premnath Thakur informed that a high-level delegation from Bangladesh have landed at TIA a while ago. The team also comprises kin of Bangladeshi nationals killed in the crash.

Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli had telephone conversation with the Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina about the fatal crash. The aircraft carrying 71 people including the crew members crash-landed at around 2:18 pm on Monday.
