Kathmandu, April 7

International Implantology Congress began for the first time in country today.

The congress is organised by Nepalese Society of Implant Dentistry.

Speakers from Brazil, South Africa, Germany, Serbia, Thailand, India and Malaysia have arrived in Kathmandu to share their skills to enable better understanding of implantology.

According to Dr Neil Pande, dental implant services started in Nepal 13 years ago.

Dental implant is the replacement of missing or diseased teeth. There are nearly 60 implantologists in the country.

Oral health is a big problem in the country but most people neglect it. Tooth implantation is expensive, so people should take good care of their oral health.

Dr Frank Kistler, implantologist from Germany, said that immediate implantation, immediate restoration and loading of dental implants were established therapeutic options. Often long treatment procedures with multiple surgical interventions can be avoided through use of these options.
