International NEWS conference kicks off

LALITPUR: Minister of Foreign Affairs Mahendra Bahadur Pandey today stressed on the need to establish a network of universities, colleges and professors across the world for the globalisation of higher education and roles of universities.

Speaking at a three-day 12th International North East West South conference organised by Tribhuvan University and Global University Network at the Institute of Engineering in Pulchowk, Pandey said, “The GUN should contribute for the development of higher education through cutting edge researches to solve pertinent global environment and other problems to save the world for the future generations.”

The theme of the conference is ‘Globalisation of Higher Education and the Roles of Universities’

Pandey highlighted that TU should be proactive in the activities of GUN to formulate regulations for education to produce qualified and skilled manpower required for the overall development of the country by imparting standard higher education, national culture and traditions.

The NEWS conference is held for the first time in Nepal after GUN last year unanimously elected Prof Hira Bahadur Maharjan, TU Vice-Chancellor, as president of NEWS for 2015. The conference, was supposed to be held on May 15-18, was postponed to June 18-21 due to the devastating earthquake of April 25.

Professors, academicians, scholars, intellectuals, teachers, researchers and media personnel representing 12 different nations are attending the conference to make their presentation on 30 different issues related to the higher education in global phenomena.

Six technical sessions are scheduled for the participants to make presentation on various subjects.
