‘Journos’ role vital for statute execution’

Kathmandu, February 22

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence Bhim Rawal today said mediapersons should play a vital role for implementation of the constitution.

Addressing the annual general assembly of the Federation of Nepali Journalists Kathmandu district chapter, DPM Rawal expected journalists to play a key role in implementing the constitution as it is inclusive and has ensured proportional representation for all sides.

DPM Rawal also urged all not to destabilise the social cohesion and unity.

Rawal said the new constitution was issued with the support from more than 90 per cent of people’s representatives and burning it was similar to burning the aspirations of the people.

Rawal also urged the agitating Tarai-cetric parties to sit for dialogue, adding that their genuine demands could be addressed through talks.

Also speaking at the programme, Press Council Nepal Chairman Borna Bahadur Karki said the Council is working to amend the existing journalistic code of ethics for making journalism well managed and transparent.

Likewise, FNJ Chairman Mahendra Bista urged all to pay attention to investment, technology and human resources, as these factors jointly contribute to professionalism of the media sector.

Similarly, Kathmandu Metropolitan City Executive Officer Rudra Singh Tamang and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Information and Communications Ram Chandra Dahkal stressed the need of responsible journalism for development.

FNJ Kathmandu Chair Govinda Chaulagain, and representatives of Press Chautari, Nepal Press Union and Revolutionary Journalists’ Association sought implementation of the new constitution.
