Lessons learnt conference begins

Kathmandu, April 21

Minister for Health Ram Janam Chaudhary today said the government was planning to build trauma centers at different places along the highways for which he had sought support from the World Health Organisation.

Addressing a two-day Lessons Learnt Conference: Health Sector Response to Nepal Earthquake 2015 jointly organised by WHO and the Ministry of Health in the capital today Minister Chaudhary said the National Planning Commission had proposed building trauma centers on the highways, where a large number of road accidents take place.

He said he had also sought support from WHO for the treatment of sickle cell disease, which is found only in the Tharu community.

Discussions during the conference would focus on four major thematic areasĀ  stewardship, and medical, public health and community-level interventions.

South East Asia Regional Director of WHO, Dr Poonam Khetrapal Singh, said Nepal was carrying out preparedness activities since last couple of years.

She said there was timely availability of medicines, logistics and resources and good coordination between nationalĀ  public and privateĀ  and international teams.
