Local bodies’ concept within four months

Kathmandu, April 21

Officials of the commission formed to restructure local bodies as per the new constitution today stated that it would prepare a preliminary concept for the number and boundaries of local bodies in the federal setup within the next four months.

The commission formed on 14 March under the chairmanship of Balananda Paudel is mandated to determine the number and boundaries of village council, municipalities and special, protected and autonomous regions within a year.

At a press meeting organised by the commission at Ministry of Federal Affairs and Local Development, Paudel said the commission formed five panels to sort out the issues under the its purview.

The five panels formed under the leadership of the commission’s members would assess the existing structures, facilities, size of population and facilities for the people in the local bodies, according to Paudel.

They will look into economic and administrative strategies and potentialities of local bodies.

Commission’s member Sunil Ranjan Singh said the commission would use different criteria to determine the number and boundaries of local bodies in the plains, hills and mountains.
