Man held for murder

KATHMANDU: Police on Thursday arrested a man on charge of killing Lakpa Tamang (24) of Duwachaur-8, Sindhupalchok district.

The suspect has been identified as Bala Ram Jyoti (28) of Duwachaur-8 of Sindhupalchok district.

Lakpa was found dead at a field of Mangal Man Shrestha in Tinchule on May 2, 2016.

Police said that Bala Ram was arrested on various charges in the past as well.

The Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) said that Bala Ram had been living at a rented room in Tinchule of Kathmandu for the past six to seven years.

Police said that Lakpa and Bala Ram were childhood friends and had been living together in Tinchule.

Preliminary investigation revealed that Lakpa had come to Kathmandu from village to go to India on May 1, 2016, the day when he was murdered.

Police said that Lakpa, Jit Bahadur Tamang and Bala Ram had gathered in jorpati at around 6:30 pm the same day and drank together at a restaurant.

Later, they went to Bala Ram's room in Tinchule and Jit Bahadur slept there, but Lakpa and Bala Ram decided to go out to steal belongings of neighbours.

When the duo did not get a good environment to steal, they robbed an intoxicated man of Rs 10,000 at Chahari Club in Arubari.

Following the robbery, Bala Ram took an iron rod from an under construction house with an objective to take all the money.

When they reached the field of Mangal Man, Bala Ram attacked Lapka with the rod on his head and killed him. He was on the run since then.

Police said that Bala Ram was arrested from Dakchindhoka of Kathmandu yesterday.

He has been sent to the Metropolitan Police Circle, Bouddha, for investigation.
