KATHMANDU: A massive fire broke out in Itahari of Sunsari district on Thursday evening.

An eight-storey building in Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-1 had caught fire due to an electronic short circuit and it later spread to as many as 100 shops, the Rastriya Samachar Samiti (RSS) reported.

Fire engines from Dharan, Itahari, Biratnagar and Inaruwa have been taken to the incident site while security personnel and locals are trying to control the fire, according to the RSS.

No human casualty was reported as most shops were shut, police added.

According to the report, property worth millions was already gutted.

Police are also salvaging various goods from the shops.

Traffic has been blocked toward the incident site.
