NC to postpone convention thru CWC meeting

Kathmandu, August 28

Ruling Nepali Congress today decided to hold the meeting of its Central Working Committee on September 1 to postpone its scheduled 13th National General Convention to save the party from a constitutional crisis.

NC will face a constitutional crisis if it fails to hold its NGC from September 19-22.The meeting of the office bearers of the party held on the premises of Constituent Assembly today discussed how the party could save itself from a constitutional crisis, as the party had failed to make necessary preparations for the NGC due to their involvement in drafting constitution.

Following the meeting, Joint General Secretary of the party Purna Bahadur Khadka said NC was all set to postpone its NGC by amending the Interim Constitution and the decision would be taken by the CWC meeting to be held on September 1. He said the party had already discussed with other parties about amending the Interim Constitution.

NC Vice-president Ramchandra Paudel said the party should take a concrete decision about the postponement of the convention through CWC by September 2 if the parties supported NC on amending the Interim Constitution, adding that the parties have promised to support NC for amending the Interim Constitution. A political party has to elect its working committee every five years. NC has to hold its NGC by September 22 to avoid violating the constitutional provision.
