Nembang seeks details of landslides

KATHMANDU, July 31

The Legislature Parliament on Friday directed the government to furnish all the details of its activities following the landslides in different parts of the country, including in Dhaulagiri and Gandaki zones in the next meeting of the Parliament.

Following deliberations of several lawmakers regarding the loss of lives and property due to the landslides at the Parliament on Friday Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang directed the government to furnish all the details to the Parliament.

Lawmakers including Sita Giri Oli, Kumar Khadka, Resham Bahadur Baniya, Dil Bahadur Nepali, Kamal Biswokarma, Prakash Sharma Poudel, Binda Devi Ale, Tej Kumari Poudel, Nar Bahadur Thapa, Keshari Gharti and Kalpana Sharma had demanded that the government expedite rescue and rehabilitation for victims. They have also demanded the government’s quick response to the victims and necessary management for their temporary settlements.

The lawmakers demanded that the government resume transportation by clearing the obstructions caused by the landslides and provide compensation to those whose agricultural business were destroyed.

Lawmakers also said the landslides had destroyed many bridges and hydro-power projects, keeping many villages in the dark.

Speaking during zero hour, lawmakers demanded that the government appoint the Chief Executive Officer of the Reconstruction Authority immediately and the appointments must  be on merit basis. The next meeting of the parliament has been scheduled for Sunday 3:00pm.
