Nepali Congress holds meetings to decide on PM election

KATHMANDU: The largest party Nepali Congress (NC) is holding internal meetings on Thursday to make formal decision on its take on the formation of new government and whether to support CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli in the prime ministerial election.

Top three leaders of the Party—President Sushil Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and Vice-President Ram Chandra Paudel—sat together to discuss the matter before the meeting of office bearers at the Prime Minister's official residence in Baluwatar this morning.

After the office bearers meeting, the Central Working Committe is expected to make formal decision on whether to field the party's own candidate or lend support to Oli.

The seven-day deadline given by the President to form the consensus government is ending today as Madhes-based parties are agitating and are not taking part in the Parliament business for weeks, consensus looks elusive and the President will have to call for the election of Prime Minister through majority .
