Sujata justifies candidacy, says for women's leadership in Nepali Congress

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress leader Sujata Koirala has claimed that she will win the elections and become the party's first female president through the party's upcoming general convention.

According to her, her candidacy is not a bargaining chip and will not withdraw it at any cost.

Speaking at an interaction with the media here in Kathmandu this afternoon, Koirala, who is daughter of late Girija Prasad Koirala, justified her candidacy saying if she gives up this time then the women 's leadership in the Nepali Congress will be pushed back for 15 years.

She went on to claim that the Koirala family supports her candidacy, as the the party cadres across Nepal did, and she will win the elections.

Koirala expressed her commitment to stay put in the election, saying she had sacrificed the position of General Secretary in the 12th general convention and she cannot always make sacrifices alone.

Saying a "grand design" has been made to nullify the contributions made by BP Koirala and Girija Prasad Koirala, she claimed that a conspiracy to finish her and the Nepali Congress party has been hatched.

"To save Congress from that and to lead it maintaining agreement, cooperation and unity," she declared, " I am needed."
