No talks until govt creates conducive environment, say Madhesi leaders

KATHMANDU: Leaders of the agitating Madhes-centric parties said that they would not come to the negotiating table until the government created conducive environment of the same.

Speaking at an interaction organised at the Reporters' Club in the Capital on Thursday, they said that the environment for talks will be possible if the government calls back mobilised Nepal Army personnel from Madhes, addresses the past agreements, declares the deceased as martyrs and pauses the Constituent Assembly process.

On the occasion, Madhesi Janadikar Forum-Democratic (MJF-D) General Secretary Ram Janam Chaudhary clarified that the Madhesi leaders will not sit for talks until the government creates conducive atmosphere.

"Talks will not be possible by imposing curfew and mobilising army personnel," he said.

Chaudhary went on to say that the political issues should be resolved in a political way.

"We were forced to ask help from international agencies after the government did not address our demands," he stated.

Senior leader of the Tarai Madhes Sadhbhawana Party, Ram Naresh Raya Yadav, stressed that the constitution drafting process should be halted to save the nation from fiasco.

He claimed that the agitation would not be prevented by using weapons.

"Madhesi's are ready to sacrifice their lives for the sake of rights," he said.

Madhesi Janadhikar Forum-Republican (MJF-R) Chairman Raj Kishor Yadav said that some elements were trying to make the ongoing protest as a racial agitation.

He further accused the leaders of three major political parties of holding CA hostage.
