Speaker postpones House meeting with consensus hope

KATHMANDU: The meeting of Legislature-Parliament has been postponed till 1 pm on Monday, December 19.

The meeting, which was scheduled for today at 11 am, was rescheduled citing special reasons, according to a notice issued by the Legislature-Parliament Secretary General Manohar Prasad Bhattarai.

The recent five House meetings have been obstructed by opposition parties including the CPN-UML as the parties protested the Constitution amendment bill tabled at the Parliament for discussion.

It has been learned that Speaker Onsari Gharti postponed the meeting with a hope that major political parties - currently at odds over the amendment bill - would forge a consensus to resume the parliamentary business by then.

The parties are learned to have been trying to forge an agreement to postpone the amendment process for the time being and endorse various election-related laws and local local elections within next five years.
