Parties fail to nominate consensual candidates for President, Vice-President

KATHMANDU: Parties in the Parliament have failed to file nominations of consensual candidates for the elections of President and Vice-President.

The Parliament Secretariat had set a deadline of 1 pm today to register candidacies of the consensual candidates.

Issuing a notice, Parliament Secretariat's Secretary General Manohar Prasad Bhattarai said no candidacy was registered during that time.

Consequently, the House meeting called for 4:30 pm today has also been postponed for Wednesday.

Now, the House would elect the President and the Vice-President on Wednesday.

Candidates are required to file their nominations from 10 am to 1 pm on Tuesday for the elections.

So far, two major parties - Nepali Congress and CPN-UML - have decided to file nominations for the post of President.

All-party meeting ends inconclusively

Meanwhile, the all-party meeting called by the Prime Minister to choose consensual candidates for the President and the Vice-President ended inconclusively today.
