Pay heed to people’s concerns: Yadav

KATHMANDU, July 23

President Ram Baran Yadav on Thursday told Unified CPN-Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal that the Constituent Assembly must allot sufficient time to discuss and incorporate suggestions of people in the new constitution.

“People have expressed their opinions on the draft constitution overwhelmingly and it is appreciable. Since, the CA is doing a historic job, it should not disappoint the people and should sufficiently discuss their concerns and try to incorporate their suggestions as much as possible,” Dahal quoted President Yadav.

Dahal called on President Yadav on Thursday at Shital Niwas.

“Dahal briefed the President about his recent India visit and President urged him to address the concerns that people raised during the feedback collection on the first draft of the new constitution,” said Dahal’s personal secretary Chudamani Khadka. In response, Dahal said that he met Prime Minister Sushil Koirala and CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli yesterday and Madhesi leaders Mahantha Thakur, Rajendra Mahato and Anil Jha on Thursday in an attempt to address the people’s concerns.

“Dahal told the President that people expressed their views overwhelmingly on forms of governance, citizenship issues and demarcation of boundaries of the federal states before promulgating the new constitution and he was making attempts to address their concerns by holding consultations with the leaders other parties,” Khadka said.
