Penner moves SC against DoI’s decision

Kathmandu, May 4

Canadian citizen Robert Penner, whose visa was cancelled by the Department of Immigration, today filed a petition for writs of certiorari and mandamus at the Supreme Court.

The first hearing in the case is scheduled for tomorrow.

Penner has also sought interim order against the DoI’s decision to revoke his visa. Penner, who was arrested on Monday on charges of trying to undermine the sovereignty and integrity of the country and jeopardise social harmony through provocative messages on social networking sites, was given two days to leave the country.

Penner has stated in his petition that the DoI’s decision to revoke his visa was against the provisions of the Constitution of Nepal, 2015, particularly Article 17 and 20.
