PM urges parties to deploy volunteers for reconstruction

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli said that all the political parties should jointly deploy volunteers to accelerate the post-quake reconstruction works.

During an all-party meeting held at Singha Dubar this morning, PM Oli informed that the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) would make plans and policies for deployment of volunteers.

"The reconstruction campaign should be operated by keeping records of all the volunteers," the Prime Minister said, adding, "Let's begin the campaign from May 14 for 15 days."

"Let's focus the campaign in the construction of shelters for the quake survivors."

He further said that the money spent by national and international organisations would also be monitored seriously.

The Prime Minister also issued a directive to the NRA to make plans and programmes for the national and international organisations which wished to work as volunteers in the campaign.

Meanwhile, he went on to say that the issues of Madhes would be resolved through talks.

PM Oli said that the government was ready to hold talks with the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF).

Saying that the govenrment had already called the budget session of the Parliament for Tuesday and hopefully the government would table its policy and programmes on Thursday, he urged the parties to make the session effective.

He said that the ongoing differences over the Parliamentary Regulations and the Parliamentary Hearing Committee should be resolved through consensus.

Sher Bahadur Deuba and Mahesh Acharya from the Nepali Congress,  Krishna Bahadur Mahara from the UCPN-Maoist, Kamal Thapa from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal, CP Mainali from the CPN-ML and Pashpati Shumsher Rana from the Rastrya Prajatantra Party among others leaders were present in the meeting.

Leaders of the United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF), however, did not attend the meeting.
