Police alerted to changing modus operandi of criminals

Kathmandu, April 15

Minister for Home Affairs Shakti Bahadur Basnet has directed Nepal Police and Armed Police Force to stay one step ahead of criminals and remain updated about the ever-changing modus operandi of offenders.

“When criminal groups keep changing their modus operandi, it is necessary to move ahead by holding internal discussions. We should focus on crime control measures and result-oriented crime investigation to put an end to the culture of impunity,” he said, while addressing a one-day workshop on Valley Special Security’ organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs in the capital today.

He informed that the ministry would organise workshops of this kind from time to time to assess the security situation and collect feedback to make the policies and rules contemporary. “This workshop will help us formulate and enforce new security plans with human resource management and responsibility. The government has given special emphasis to implementing the new constitution, and maintaining national unity and good governance when the country is at a historical juncture after promulgation of the constitution,” said Minister Basnet.

Claiming that fuel supply had already normalised, he stressed the need for creating an enabling environment for development activities. On the occasion, Home Secretary Narayan Gopan Malego, IGP Upendra Kant Aryal, acting APF chief Durja Kumar Rai, chief of National Investigation Department Dilip Raj Regmi had aired their views on peace and security situation of the Valley and future challenges facing it.

Joint secretary Yadav Prasad Koirala, chief of Peace and Security Division at the MoHA, shed light on the objective of the workshop. High-level officials of MoHA, Nepal Police, APF and NID, chief district officer and security head of Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur also participated in the workshop.
