Press Council draws attention of PM to violation of journalistic code

KATHMANDU: Press Council Nepal has drawn the attention of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli towards the rising cases of violation of journalistic code of conduct, today.

A delegation of Press Council Nepal, led-by Chairman Borna Bahadur Karki, on Friday urged PM Oli for management of budget for PCN, stating that regulations and monitoring of media has become difficult due to limited means and resources.

On the occasion, Prime Minister Oli requested the media to be positive in the current situation and urged the Press Council to increase its vigilance and help implement the code of conducts as rumours were spread in the Tarai region.

Expressing his commitment to press freedom, PM Oli said that the Press Council should be strengthened to make media houses responsible.

PM’s press advisor Pramod Dahal said that the PM has promised to extend necessary support.

Members of the Press Council and President of Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ) Mahendra Bista were also present at the meeting.
