Probe panel soon
Kathmandu, August 25
The government today decided to set up a five-member probe committee under the coordination of former director general of National Investigation Department Devi Ram Sharma to investigate into the killing of seven security personnel and a two-year-old boy in Tikapur municipality of Kailali district on Monday.
An emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers held at prime minister’s official residence this evening, directed the Ministry of Home Affairs to form the committee, Minister for General Administration Lalbabu Pandit told The Himalayan Times.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will appoint the members of the probe committee and set a time frame for it to submit its report, he added.
The Cabinet also decided to promote posthumously all deceased security forces to one post higher than their ranks and provide pension to their families accordingly, said Pandit.
Earlier, Prime Minister Sushil Koirala met all security chiefs — Acting Chief of Army Staff Rajendra Chhetri, Inspector General of Nepal Police Upendra Kanta Aryal, Inspector General of Armed Police Force Kosh Raj Onta and Director General of National Investigation Department Dilip Regmi. DPM and Home Minister Bamdev Gautam was also present in the meeting.
