Kathmandu, June 11

In what appears to be a premeditated plot, unidentified groups attacked Ncell mobile phone towers in six districts on Saturday, destroying property worth millions of rupees.

Police said three persons on motorcycle set ablaze the main box and generator of an Ncell tower at Lalghoda of Shivasatasi Municipality, Jhapa.

Similarly, arsonists targeted BTS and its eight batteries of Ncell tower in Jaitpani of Kupindedah, Salyan.

In yet another attack, they set fire to a generator, cables and back-up power supply of Ncell towers at Laxmipur-1 and Lamahi Municipality-4 in Dang. Police have also reported arson in Ashrang-7, Gorkha.

Likewise, a gang of four persons took a security guard under control and set an Ncell tower on fire in Yangshila-8.

DIG Madhav Prasad Joshi said all district police offices had been directed to ensure security of telephone structures to prevent further attacks, while bringing to book the perpetrators.

“We have stepped up security in the targeted districts and will track down the attackers and initiate legal action against them,” he informed.
