Rain, snowfall likely in parts of country

A westerly low pressure area dominated the weather conditions today, increasing chances of moderate rainfall in various parts of the country.

Shanti Kandel, meteorologist at the Meteorological Forecasting Division, said there is a strong presence of low pressure area throughout the country.

Thus, there is a probability of showers in the Kathmandu Valley and one or two places in the eastern, central and western regions tonight and tomorrow.

She, however, ruled out chances of snowfall in the high hills around the Valley even in case of rainfall.

According to the Meteorological Forecasting Division, the central, eastern and western regions will be generally cloudy and isolated rain is likely to occur at a few places of the hilly regions tomorrow.

There is also possibility of light to moderate snowfall at a some places in the high mountainous regions of the country.

Despite the cloudy skies and chilly conditions, the minimum temperature recorded in the Valley was 3.5 degree Celsius, still a notch higher than that of yesterday.

“Similar weather conditions will prevail till tomorrow and the current weather pattern will start improving from the western region the day after tomorrow,” said Kandel.

Average monthly rainfall in January is 14.4 mm.
