Rastriya Prajatantra Party picks cow for election symbol

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP), which recently concluded its unity convention, has decided to choose cow as its election symbol.

The RPP Central Committee meeting held on Friday made the decision, the party's Central Committee member Mohan Shrestha informed.

The party leaders had been debating between the cow and the plough since the then Rastriya Prajatantra Party and the Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal announced their merger in November last year.

The RPP had the plough and the RPP-N had the cow as the election symbols before the unity.

While the party's powerful Chairman Kamal Thapa, who had led the RPP-N, was in favour of the cow, other senior leaders including Pashupati Shamsher Rana and Prakash Chandra Lohani had been advocating for the plough arguing that the icon had an emotional intimacy with the party cadres and voters.

The party had concluded its general convention on February 22 after the unification of Thapa-led RPP-Nepal and Rana-led RPP.
