KATHMANDU: Speaker Subas Chandra Nembang and Deputy Speaker Onsari Gharti resigned from their posts on Wednesday.

Nembang handed over his resignation letter to Gharti and Gharti gave her resignation letter to Nembang to pave a way for the elections of the new Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

They resigned from their posts prior to a meeting of the Parliament scheduled for 3 pm today.

The meeting will begin the process of electing new Speaker and Deputy Speaker.

It has been learned that the parties would be given only one day to find common candidates for Speaker and Deputy Speaker and if they failed to produce common names, the Parliament would hold election for the posts by Saturday.

Now, the eldest member will Chair the House until new Speaker is elected.
