Students to form human chain along Ring Road

Kathmandu, November 25

Students in the capital will form a human chain along the 27 kilometer Ring Road at 11:00 am on November 27 to raise the issue of child rights violation at the national and international level.

Currently around 7.1 million children are directly or indirectly affected by the ongoing Tarai/Madhes agitation and the unofficial blockade imposed by India on Nepal.

The human chain is being formed also to mount pressure on the concerned authorities to safeguard the rights of 7.1 million children, who are affected by the ongoing Madhes agitation and blockade at border checkpoints.

Speaking at a press meet here today, Lachhe Bahadur KC, president, Private and Boarding Schools’ Organisation Nepal, said they planned to form a human chain of students to draw the attention of all concerned regarding the impact of the current crisis. “Since students have been deprived of their right to education, they will form a human chain along the Ring Road carrying placards with slogans such as ‘Lets us live and study.’

Karna Bahadur Shahi, president, National Private and Boarding Schools’ Association of Nepal, said the peaceful programme will draw the attention of the authorities towards resolving the current crisis.“We think silence speaks louder than words.

Thus, we are going to organise this programme demanding that the authorities safeguard children’s rights,” he added. Guardians, student unions, teachers’ organisations, private and boarding schools’ umbrella organisations and others will also participate in the programme.

Lawmaker Ranjit Karna, who is also the president of Nepali Congress-aligned Nepal Students’ Union, today said, they had decided to form a human chain along the Ring Road since people from across the country reside in the Kathmandu Valley.
