Nembang gets party responsibility after 3 stints as Speaker
KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML appointed Subas Chandra Nembang as the party's Standing Committee member.
A meeting of the party's Standing Committee made the decision to this effect, according to party Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai.
Nembang was relieved from the party responsibilities after he was elected Speaker of the then Interim Parliament in 2007.
Nembang was later elected as the Chairman of both Constituent Assemblies in 2008 and 2014 respectively.
After the first CA was dissolved on May 28, 2012, Nembang had rejoined the party and was active as the party leader till he was reelected the Chair of the Constitution-writing body in early 2014.
After promulgation of the Constitution on September 20, 2015, the CA had transformed into the Parliament.
Nembang, however, had resigned from the post of Speaker as per provisions of the new Constitution, on October 14.
Meanwhile, the party assigned senior leader Jhala Nath Khanal to take the charges of the Policy Research Academy while another senior leader Madhav Kumar Nepal was made the chief of the International Department.
Party Secretary Bhim Acharya has been appointed the coordinator for the Eastern Development Region.
