TU signs MoU with Tibet University

Kathmandu, June 2

The Tribhuvan University (TU) recently signed a memorandum of understanding to provide teaching and research assistantship in architecture and metal craft to students of Tibet University.

TU Vice-chancellor Prof Tirtha Raj Khaniya and president of Tibet University Ji Jianzhou signed the understanding on behalf of their respective universities.

Associate Prof Sushil B Bajracharya, Department of Architecture, Institute of Engineering, TU, today said the MoU was signed between the two institutions on May 25, 2016 in Tibet University, Lhasa.

He said Prof Jianzhou had invited Prof Khaniya, Dean of IoE Prof Triratna Bajracharya, Prof Sudarshan R Tiwari, Prof Pralhad R Pant, Artist Purna K Shakya and Dr Bajracharya to visit Tibet University to explore possibilities of joint research and educational development activities between the two universities.

“TU professors will provide teaching and research assistantship in joint research activities especially in architecture and metal crafts to students of Tibet University,” said Bajracharya, adding the two universities were going to launch a mutual architectural and planning research project in the settlements of Mustang soon.

According to Prof Bajracharya, the relationship between the two universities started in 2003 when Guo Hongwei, Dean of School of Engineering, Tibet University, visited Nepal.

Prof SR Tiwari was invited to attend an international conference on conservation organised by Tibet University in Lhasa in 2004.

Prof Guo Hongwei, Tsewang Tashi of School of Arts, Head of Department of Architecture Suolang Baimu, Mao Zhonghua, Que Longkai, Kelsang Wangmo, and Sou Yang participated in the International Conference on Traditional Housing and Settlements, held in Kathmandu in October, 2009.
