UML to field Bidya Devi Bhandari for presidential poll

KATHMANDU: The ruling CPN-UML has decided to field its Vice-Chairperson Bidya Devi Bhandari in the presidential election scheduled for Wednesday.

A Standing Committee meeting of the party held this morning made the decision to this effect.

UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai confirmed the decision in his tweet.

Though the decision to field Bhandari has been finalised, the Committee is further discussing the issue, according to Bhattarai.

Now, Bhandari is likely to compete against a Nepali Congress candidate for the post of the Head of State.

If elected, Bhandari will be the first female Head of State of Nepal.
