Vote count for Nepali Congress president delayed

KATHMANDU: The vote count for Nepali Congress president has been delayed due to dispute after 30 general convention representatives nominated by late party President Sushil Koirala were not allowed to cast their votes in the election for the new leadership.

Though earlier it was aid the vote count would begin at 10 pm, it could not happen till midnight.

Meanwhile, the ballot boxes of other positions, including general secretary, treasure and Central Working Committee members, were sealed and taken to the party's central office in Sanepa from Rastriya Sabha Griha.

The votes for other positions will be counted later, while the results of the presidential election are expected by the morning.

If none of the three candidate garnered mandatory 50 per cent  plus one vote, then run-off elections would have to be held.
