Three nabbed on charge of murdering woman in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: Police arrested three persons for their alleged involvement in murder of a woman, who they said resisted forced sexual relationship with the suspects.

According to the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), Sunny Lama (28) of Boudha, KMC-6, Rajan Rai (19) of Pathari-3, Morang district, currently residing at Thali, on the outskirts of Kathmandu, and Sajit Lama (24) of Bouddha, KMC-6 were arrested on charge of killing 20-year-old Sangita (name changed) of Dhankuta, who was living at Saraswotinagar of Kathmandu.

Police said that the body of Sangita was found in Nagarkot of Bhaktapur on February 26.

According to a preliminary investigation, Rajan and Sangita came to know each other through Facebook three months ago.

They had met for the first time in Bouddha at around 3 pm on February 20.

Police said that Sanjit, Sunny and a person, whose identity is yet to be established, were also with Rajan when he met Sangita.

Later, they went to the Hard Rock Café in Thamel and had four to five bottles of beer. When Sangita got intoxicated, they also carried out sexual activities, police claimed.

They came out of the Café at around 6:10 pm and headed towards Bouddha.

When they reached the Bouddha gate, Rajan and Sajit got off the vehicle and handed Sangita, still intoxicated, to Sunny and the unidentified person.

Later on, they took Sangita to the apartment of the unidentified person in Lazimpat.

After they reached the apartment, Sunny and Sangita added one more bottle of beer. They also had a sexual relationship in consent.

When the unidentified person also desired to have sex with Sangita, Sunny and he engaged into a heated verbal exchange for sometime.

Sangita was not convinced to sleep with the apartment owner and she got into the bathroom in a bid to escape. The owner, however, did not let her go.

In one-on-one confrontation, the man pushed the woman out of the bathroom window and she sustained critical injuries.

Instead of taking her to a hospital, Sunny and the unidentified person took her to somewhere else on a car, police said.

After they knew that Sangita stopped breathing, they threw her into a bamboo brush near Manpokhari, Nagarkot Municipality-11 of Bhaktapur.

Following the incident, a police team deployed from the MPDC detained Rajan and Sunny from Tribhuvannagar-1 of Sarlahi on February 22.

Police said Sanjit was also arrested from another place and the yet-to-be-identified person is on the run.

Police said that the detainees have been handed over to the Metropolitan Police Range, Bhaktapur for investigation.
