Women-friendly constitution sought
KATHMANDU, August 14
The Collective Campaign for Women-friendly Constitution on Friday organised a rally from Babarmahal to New Baneshwor to pressure the government and lawmakers to make the constitution women-friendly, ensure the right to citizenship in mother’s name and equal participation, along with representation of women, in all areas of governance and power.
Women rights organisations, rights activists, professionals, housewives and youths participated in the protest rally. The participants chanted slogans protesting against the revised provisions of draft constitution from 10:30am to 11:30am on Friday.
They are determined to take to the streets unless all their demands regarding women rights are fulfilled. After the rally turned into a corner meet at New Baneshwor, more than 500 participants kept chanting slogans. Addressing the mass, women rights activist Radha Poudel urged every individual to support the campaign. She said, “As it is vital to build an equal and just society, the issue does not just concern women but all the members of the society.”
The campaign will hold a mobile phone torch rally on August 16 from Babarmahal at 7:00 pm.
