1 killed, dozen others injured after locals clashed with police, curfew imposed in Birtamod

JHAPA: The District Administration Office, Jhapa has imposed a curfew in Birtamod in the district on Friday.

One person was killed and dozen others were injured after locals clashed with the security personnel after the rally forcefully tried to enter the restricted area set by police in the area.

Naresh Thapa of Arjundhara Municipality in Jhapa district died while undergoing treatment at the local hospital.

The curfew has been imposed in Bus park area in the east of Birtamod to Charpane to the west, Mahannda Chowk in the north and Birtabazar to the south, Superintendent of Police Bishnu KC informed.

The locals had organised the rally demanding action against the murderer of Laxman Shiwakot, of Arjundhara-11, who had gone missing from his home on September 30 was found dead the following day at Birtamod-1 in the district.

To bring the situation under control, police opened fire in the air, dozen rounds of teargas shells were fired and batons were charged at a mass rally.

The agitating locals have accused police personnel failing to arrest the culprits after the relatives have filed an FIR against those involved in the mysterious killing of 11-year-old boy.
