RAUTAHAT, August 1

A ten-year-old Dalit girl was raped in Pataura VDC in Rautahat yesterday night. The condition of the victim is said to be critical.

Area Police Office said that Radheshyam Patel, 18, of the same VDC had raped the minor yesterday evening.

The victim’s family said that Patel had raped the girl in the sugarcane field when she had gone there to collect fodder for cattle.

Meanwhile, the villagers  reached the spot when they heard the victim scream for help. But the accused had fled the scene when the villagers reached the spot.

The locals and family members of the girl had rescued the girl and taken her to Garuda-based Health Land Clinic immediately after the incident. The minor was referred

to Narayani Sub-regional Hospital, Birgunj, after doctors in the clinic could not treat her.

It is said that the minor was again referred to National Medical College, Birgunj from Narayani Sub-regional Hospital after the bleeding from her private part did not stop.

Inspector Santulal Prasad Jaisawal of Area Police Office, Garuda, said the minor is receiving treatment at National Medical College, but her condition is critical.

He further added that police are searching for the accused.

The inspector assured that a manhunt would be launched and the culprit arrested soon.
