12,000 quake victims receive first instalment

It is reported that approximately 12,000 earthquake victims of Kavre district have received the first instalment of the government’s relief amount of Rs 50, 000 through their bank account, which was distributed for the construction of houses.

District Development Committee, Kavre, said the amount was sent through the bank account to the quake victims as per the DDC’s plan. Planning officer Dholak Raj Dhakal of the DDC said that the 12,000 victims had received the amount as first instalment and that the amount would be sent to the accounts of those who made the amount agreement by September 16.

Banks and other financial institutions were overcrowded after it was known that the government had started sending the relief amount in their bank accounts.The relief amount was sent to Banepa-based Global IME, Infrastructure Development Bank, Nepal Bank, ICFC Finance among other financial institutions; and the bank served the victims on Saturday as well.

Sources at the DDC said that the amount agreement was made with 55,914 victims till yesterday as per the notice issued by the National Reconstruction Project.

Dhakal said that the amount agreement process was under way with 73 VDCs and five municipalities, except Phalante and Bhumlutar VDCs.

“The amount agreement with the victims of Phalante and Bhumlutar has yet to be made as they did not have their land ownership certificates,” Dhakal informed.
