1,392 quake victims get first cash instalment

At least 1,392 victims of last year’s earthquake have received the first installment of cash relief in Makawanpur so far.

According to available data, as many as 30,322 households live in the district. Altogether, the government has disbursed Rs 69.6 million to the victims in the first installment.

Chief of the authority for the reconstruction of earthquake-damaged houses Nirmal Pyakurel said the victims of Thaha municipality figure at the top with 1,207 households eligible to sign on the contract for receiving the relief amount; whereas the least number of households qualifying for the relief fund is 62 in Bharta VDC of the district.

The victims of nine VDCs and Hetauda sub-metropolitan city are yet to sign the contract.

The victims of Raigaun, Phabarbari, Dhiyal, Betini, Raksirang, Sarikhet, Manahari, Handikhola and Aambhanjyang are yet to sign the agreement paper for the relief amount.

According to VDC secretaries, the victims refused to sign the agreement saying that the list of earthquake victims had excluded some genuine victims and they have demanded that the data be collected again.

According to Pyakurel, as many as 22,583 complaints were received regarding the issue in the district so far.

They received as many as 2,329 complaints from Hetauda sub-metropolis, 2,040 from Chhatiwan VDC and the least from Kalikatar VDC with just 55.
