18-year-old girl found dead in Phewa Lake

POKHARA: A girl has been found dead Monday morning in Phewa Lake of Pokhara Metropolitan City in Kaski district.

Body of Susmita Lamichhane (18) of Kodi, Pumdibhumdi in Pokhara Metropolitan City-22 was retrieved from the lake after a search operation was launched.

Police had discovered the young girl's bag, mobile phone and slippers at dam side on the banks of Phewa lake, which led them to look for her inside the waters. Following this, Lamichhane's body was found in the lake by the rescue team of Nepal Police.

Investigations have begun and police have started talking to the relatives and school authorities of the deceased, according to Spokesperson at Kaski District Police Office, DSP Rabindra Gurung.

Lamichhane's family have indicated that she had left home around 4:30 in the afternoon saying that she would go visit a friend.

According to police, preliminary investigation points that Lamichhane fell into the lake around midnight from the park near the dam side. Further investigations are going on to find out whether she jumped into the waters herself or someone pushed her.

It has been revealed that she had texted a friend and a cousin before losing contact.

Lamichhane was studying in Grade 10 at Chhorepatan Higher Secondary School located in Pokhara Metropolitan City-17.

Only a few days back, on August 24, body of 14-year-old Pushpa KC of Jimire in Pokhara Metropolitan City had been found on the base of a hill in Phapartaro-based Shailaja Park of the metropolis. Cases of such mysterious deaths of young girls in various parts of the country have been raising alarm.
