45 quake-hit schools to be reconstructed

District Education Office Kavre is all set to reconstruct as many as 45 primary schools, which were destroyed in the powerful earthquake of April last year, in the first phase.

District Education Officer Nanda Lal Poudel informed that they were preparing to reconstruct as many as 45 primary schools in the first phase. “Of them, at least 12 schools will be constructed within this fiscal.

The tender process for reconstruction of some schools has already begun,” he said.

According to the office, the newly constructed building will be earthquake-resistant, child-friendly, weather-friendly and disabled-friendly.

The office has prioritised schools that have more than 40 students in each class, where the structures have been totally destroyed.

The schools ought to have at least three to seven ropani land and are located near a road in the first phase.

The DEO also stated that it will start constructing lower secondary and secondary schools within the next fiscal.

Of the 321 primary, 91 lower secondary, 80 secondary and 56 higher secondary schools in the district, 353 schools were destroyed completely whereas as many as 195 were damaged partially in the disaster.

Meanwhile, Alternative Energy Promotion Centre Kavre today distributed improvised iron stove to 1,680 families of earthquake victims.

Those stoves were distributed to residents of five VDCs, which were declared smoke-free VDCs before last year’s devastating earthquake.

Of them, a total of 280 stoves are to be distributed at Bekhsimle, 283 at Saramthali, 752 at Chyasingkharka, 298 at Chyamrangbeshi and 67 at Prithvi Narayansthan of the district.

The stove is a product of Gujarat’s Rural Green Way Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd each stove costs Rs 3,500.

Stoves worth around 5.9 million will be distributed.
