49 killed in accidents in Tanahun last fiscal

Various road accidents claimed as many as 49 lives in the fiscal year of  2072/73 in Tanahun district.

The number of persons who sustained injuries stands at 247 in the past fiscal.

As per the data with District Traffic Police Tanahun, the district witnessed a total of 150 accidents, both minor and major, in the district in the past fiscal.

“The number of accidents and deaths is higher in the fiscal 2072/73 as compared to the previous fiscal. In the fiscal  year of 2071/72, 42 people lost their lives in accidents and 142 road accidents were recorded,” said sub-inspector Om Prasad Poudel, in-charge of the District Traffic Police Office.

According to Poudel, the District Traffic Police Office conducted around 28 classes in the fiscal year of 2072/73 to raise awareness about traffic rules and regulations among students, drivers of all kinds of vehicles, and other groups.

Poudel attributed the increasing number of cases of road accidents to dilapidated and narrow roads, speeding, drunken driving and stray cattle let loose on the roads.
