6 killed, dozens hurt as brick kiln chimney collapses in Itahari

ITAHARI: At least six workers were killed while more than 60 others were injured when the chimney of New Jaya Nepal Brick Kiln collapsed here in Itahari of Sunsari district in eastern Nepal on Monday evening.

Three of the deceased have been identified as Saddam Hussein, Salun Miyan and Rahul Miyan. Identity of others is yet to be ascertained, according to Deputy Superintendent of Police Chiranjibi Koirala.

The brick factory is located at Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City-16.

More than 60 others were injured while rescue works to pull out those trapped in the debris of the fallen chimney continues, police said. An excavator was used for the search operation.

The injured have been rushed to the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences and Biratnagar-based Nobel Medical College.
