7 foreign paragliders fall into Phewa Lake, all rescued

UPDATE: Police said total eight paragliding pilot were rescued. Seven of them had fallen into the Phewa Lake while another was stuck on a tree in Armala while landing.

Kaski District Police Office chief SP Ghanashyam Aryal said security personnel and locals jointly rescued the pilots.

Meanwhile, Usmanova, however, claimed she did not fall into the Lake. "I did not fall into Lake Phewa," she wrote to the THT Online this evening, "I made a safe landing."

Her name was also listed in the list provided by police.

7 foreign paragliders fall into Phewa Lake, all rescued

UPDATE: The sixth paraglider, who was unaccounted for after falling into the Phewa Lake, was rescued alive by a team of security personnel, according to Nepal Air Sports Association's Chairman Yogesh Bhattarai.

POKHARA: As many six paragliders, who were competing in the Paragliding Pre-World Cup, fell into the Phewa Lake of Pokhara in western Nepal on Tuesday.

The competition had kicked off in the lake city on Saturday.

According to SP Ghanshyam Aryal of the District Police Office, Kaski, though five paragliders were rescued alive, one is still missing.

The paragliders, who flew to the height of 1400 meters from Sarangkot, were supposed to land at Khapaudi on the banks of Phewa Lake.

The paragliders, all of them foreigner nationals, fell into the Phew Lake after they lost control due to strong wind, informed Krishna Bhandari, the coordinator of the competition.

As many as 150 pilots from 26 countries including Nepal are competing in the Paragliding Pre-World Cup.

The competition has been organised by Nepal Air Sports Association (NAA) and supported by the Nepal Tourism Board.

SP Aryal said that they are searching for the missing person.

The paragliding competition aimed at promoting adventure tourism in Nepal.

Paragliding World Cup has been scheduled for next year in Nepal.
