‘Abide by election code of conduct’

Kathmandu, October 8

Election Commissioner Ila Sharma today said that that the Election Commission would leave no stone unturned to hold elections in a free and fair manner.

Addressing a training of master trainers for election management here in Kathmandu, Commissioner Sharma urged all political parties and candidates to fully abide by the election code of the conduct during the elections.

Another Commissioner Narendra Dahal said the constructive role of all stakeholders was essential to increase the participation of voters and make managerial works of the elections smooth.

Likewise, chairman of the Administrative Court and constitutional expert Kashiraj Dahal suggested to the election body to take stern action against code violators.

Secretary at the Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Kamalshali Ghimire stressed effective implementation of the acts and laws to hold elections in a free, fair and fearless atmosphere.

On the occasion, Renaud Meyer, country director of UNDP, Nepal, said that the United Nations was extending technical support to Nepal for holding the elections.

The poll panel said government secretaries and joint secretaries, who are taking part as master trainers in the two-day training, will impart training to officials at the provincial level.
