Agitation continues in Dhanusha

Janakpurdham, September 13

The agitating relatives of three persons who were killed in a clash with police a few days ago in Dhanusha, said they would not receive the bodies until the deceased were given martyr status.

A joint meeting of United Democratic Madhesi Front Dhanusha and CPN-Maoist district committee decided not to change their stance.

In a statement issued after the meeting, the agitating forces demanded that Sanjay Chaudhary, Niku Yadav and Dilip Yadav be declared martyrs by the state and their familiies be given proper reparations as they were killed due to merciless police suppression.

They have also demanded action against Dhanusha Chief District Officer Kali Prasad Adhikari, DSP Ganesh Bahadur Thapa and APF officer Rabindra Thakur.

They have sought national and international human rights watchdogs’ necessary support for fair and effective monitoring and investigation into the incident which was the result of government suppression.

“We would like to appeal all the concerned people and traders not to supply any daily essentials, including foodstuff to the police administration because of their barbaric and inhuman treatment of the deceased. Hence, our

agitation is still on for autonomous state and equality among all,” reads the statement. The statement urges people from all walks of life in the region to join the general strike.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been taken to Janakpur Zonal Hospital for post-mortem.
