Rai doubts govt-UDMF deal will be honoured

Rajbiraj, September 24

Federal Socialist Forum Nepal senior leader and former minister Ashok Rai has expressed doubts if the government would honour its agreement with the United Democratic Madhesi Front.

Inaugurating Madhesi Health Workers Forum Nepal District Working Committee’s second district convention here today, the leader said, “The government earlier inked a deal with UDMF, expressing its commitment to meet our demands, but now we are doubtful if the previous agreement with us will be implemented.”

“All these years, the state has always deceived the people, especially the oppressed and the minorities. Therefore, we now have difficulty believing that the government will amend the constitution as per its commitment,” he said, adding that they would launch another movement if the state failed to implement the agreement with the Madhesh-based parties .

On a different note, the former minister ruled out chances of development in the country unless there is political stability. “The state must work to ensure political stability,” he said.
