Assistant driver knocked down by vehicle in reverse gear, dies in Chitwan

RATNANAGAR, CHITWAN: A teenager who was seriously injured after being knocked by an oil tanker on reverse gear at Piple of Rapti Municipality in eastern Chitwan died on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Punaya Shah (14), an assistant driver of the same oil tanker.

The incident occurred after the reversing oil tanker hit Shah, the worker for the same vehicle yesterday, according to the District Police Office, Chitwan.

Injured Shah was rushed to the Bharatpur-based College of Medical Sciences where he breathed his last during the course of treatment at 9:00 pm last night, said police.

His body has been kept at the hospital for the postmortem, police said.

Meanwhile, Bhandara-based Area police Office in Chitwan has detained the heavy vehicle driver for further investigation into the case.

In a separate incident in Chitwan, a person drowned in the Narayani River on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Junga Bahadur Bagadi who appeared to be a late teen.

Bagadi drowned while he was swimming in the river, police said.
