Bhattarai, NC leaders for delaying statute
Kathmandu, September 12
Unified CPN-Maoist senior leader Baburam Bhattarai and some Madhes-based leaders of Nepali Congress have said that voting on the “Revised Bill” of the constitution should be deferred for a few days to resolve the issues raised by the agitators.
Bhattarai said that delaying the constitution for a few days would not create any problem. He further said national integrity of the country was at risk due to the stands of some leaders not to split their districts. He said a solution to the issues raised by agitating parties and groups should be resolved through dialogue.
Meanwhile, three Nepali Congress CA members, including Minister for Physical Planning and Transport Bimalendra Nidhi, Ram Krishna Yadav and Ananda Dhungana today urged the Prime Minister and NC President Sushil Koirala to delay the ongoing constitution drafting process for eight to ten days.
According to Constituent Assembly member Ram Krishna Yadav, the three leaders of Dhanusha district have briefed Prime Minister Koirala on the loss of lives and the increasingly violent protests in the Tarai. He told the PM that violence would further escalate if their demands were not addressed soon.
Similarly, a meeting of some 20 CA members of Dhanusha district held at the Ministry of Physical Planning and Transport today decided to demand from the government to declare all those killed in the movement as martyrs.
The meeting also decided to appeal to the agitating parties and groups to carry out their protests peacefully. It also asked the government not to suppress peaceful protests.
